The Crawford House stands at the top of a divide and within a short distance from the hotel are the sources of two rivers, the Ammonoosuc and the Saco. The former finally empties into the Long Island Sound and the latter into the Atlantic, north of Portland Me. They both start within two hundred yards from each other.
